DECEMBER 2013

27/12

Last Open Show of the year for us is Sleaford & District CS, where I am pleased to report that under Breed Specialist judge Joan Sheehan (Amaqqut) Harry takes Reserve in Puppy Dog or Bitch and Lucie takes not only 1st in Open Dog or Bitch but also Best of Breed. A fantastic way to end 2013!

Round 4 of the Allerton Weightpull Championship today and with wind and rain the conditions are cool but slippery in the chute.

Lucie works super hard and pulls 1700lb - 25x her bodyweight - to come 4th of 21 in the 61-80lb class. She pulls 1800lb all but an inch of the way to the end before running out of time.

Harry is in novice class and is really starting to get his head into it with a bit less bouncing than the last two times.

14/12

Today is the last Championship Show of the year, LKA and under judge Robin Newhouse (Annecy) Harry takes VHC in Puppy Dog.

01/12

Today is round 3 of the Allerton Weightpull Championship.

Lucie pulls 1500lb, over 22x her bodyweight, to come 5th of 23 in the 61-80lb class, while Harry has lots of fun bouncing down the chute in novice class too!

NOVEMBER 2013

24/11

A weekend of Open Shows!

Today we are at Sedgley & Gornal CA where under Breed Specialist judge Lisa Mort (Arcticbreeze) Lucie is the only female in a nice Open Dog or Bitch class and takes 2nd. Harry takes VHC in Junior Dog or Bitch.

The previous day we were at The Nordic Speciality Open Show.
In breed classes Harry takes VHC Puppy Dog or Bitch and Lucie takes 2nd Open Bitch under judge Sue Hewitt-Chambers (Sunhaze). And later on, in stakes classes, Harry takes 2nd in AV Puppy and Lucie takes Reserve in AV Sled Dog Open under judge Sigurd Wilberg (Kanix).

I also get some impromptu handling duties and take out for the first time the handsome 'Trelowen Ancorya' (owned by Margaret Deuchar) who takes 3rd in Norwegian Buhund Open Dog, and then the beautiful Java - 'Arabica Av Tasermuit At Sledog' (owned by Nicola Singh & Stuart Winterton) - who takes 2nd Greenland Dog Open Dog or Bitch. Thank you to their owners for the opportunity to handle such lovely dogs.

21/11

Today we say a happy tenth birthday to our lovely Maya and all her Blue x Amber littermates - she enjoys a gentle walk, a nice marrow bone and lots of cuddles!

17/11

At last working season is upon us, having missed the start of the competitive events, and today we are at Round 2 of the Allerton Weightpull.

Lucie is on form and does me proud with a pull of 1700lb - 25x her bodyweight - to come 3rd in the 61-80lb class for the day.
Harry is obviously too young to compete but has a few turns in Novice class to practice his technique and is slowly but surely learning to hone his enthusiasm and not to bounce his way down the chute - what a nice day!

Thank you to Kirsty Marie Mountstephens for the below pics.

10/11

An Open Show to start the month at Hyde & District CS where under judge Jane Brook (Snobruk) Harry takes 2nd in Puppy Dog / Bitch, and then Lucie also takes 2nd in Open Dog / Bitch.

Under our Breed Judge Aniko Vasarhelyi (Okinastar) he takes 2nd in Puppy Dog or Bitch.

He goes on to take 2nd in the Carol Copley Memorial AV Puppy Dog Stakes against some nice competition, winning £5 in prize money - not a bad days work!

JULY 2013

26/07

Today is a nice day out at my local Championship show in Leeds, with CCs given for Malamutes for the first time and our judge breed specialist Liz Bruns (Kirakoo).
I had two lovely dogs to handle; first Mason - Amaqqut Harnessed Power - owned by Mandy Longbottom & Adam Sammels - who at only his second Champ Show Crufts qualified with a 3rd in Junior Dog (7 Entries, 1 Absent).

I then get the pleasure of handling for the first time the beautiful Nooka - Hawkam Last Chance WPD WWPD WTD WPDA - owned by Nick Cornah & Joanne Cornah-Wade - who takes 2nd in a strong Veteran Bitch class (9 Entries, 1 Abs)!

My own Lucie was also out and I was pleased with her taking 3rd in a big Limit Bitch class (12 Entries, 3 Abs).
The highlight of the day however was seeing her father Bullit - BIS / MBISS / MBVISS Snowolf Canuck Bullit ShCM - taking his 3rd CC, not to mention BOB - making him one of less than 20 UK Champions at this time. Lucie is very proud of her Father's achievement!

21/07

A much cooler day, so my visiting Mum and I take the dogs out for a fun day with friends at York Canine Association Open Show.

Lucie does me proud in the ring by taking 1st in a large Open Dog or Bitch class (8 Entries, 0 Absent) and then Best of Breed under Breed Specialist Maureen Boyd (Icescape).
And as if that isn't enough, she then goes on to take Group 4 in a lovely working group under judge Marion McArdle (McArmadale). What a fantastic day and my sincere thanks to both judges for thinking well of my girl.

The heat and our weekend of showing continue with two shows back-to-back today.

First is Evesham & District CS Open Show, where under judge Brunette Greenland (Rajarani) I am delighted with Lucie taking 2nd Open Dog or Bitch (8 Entries, 1 Absent) and RBOB.

Then we go on to the inaugral AMCUK July Open Show where I am equally thrilled with her performance when she takes 1st Limit Bitch (10 Entries, 4 Absent) under judge Kevin Young (Sunkap).

Thank you to both judges for thinking highly of my girl.

I also have the pleasure of handling our camping mate for the weekend Womble - BJISS Hawkam Leading The Trail Via Amaqqut WTD WWPD WWPDX, owned by Joan & Jeff Sheehan - who having earned Best Veteran Dog with Simon Molloy at the end of the lead is handed over to me for the challenges and goes on to take Best Veteran In Speciality Show. Well done Womble & Joan!

After such a fantastic weekend, it was of course lovely to be home, especially as I then got to say happy birthday to my special man Stan, who turns 6 years old today. He and Lucie enjoyed a celebratory meal together :)

13/07

What a fantastic day we had at National Working & Pastoral Championship Show.

Lucie does me proud beyond my expectations in such hot weather, first by winning a strong Open Bitch class (11 entries, 4 absent) - gaining her KC Stud Book No in the process - but then going on to take the Bitch CC (her first) and BOS. My sincere thanks to Breed Specialist Sharon Loades (Snowolf) for thinking so highly of my girl and to all who were so supportive ringside and by text / messages later. Completely over the moon!

And if that wasn't enough, I also had fun handling some lovely dogs in the previous classes, and was thrilled with my Quin - Celticice Quinarius Nessie, bred & owned by Paula Pyper & Gary Roach - taking 2nd Post Graduate bitch, and there at her first show the lovely Adele - Chayo Eye Candy, owned by Glyn Cameron & Ellen Pennings - taking 2nd Puppy Bitch.

07/07

Another day of glorious sunshine at Lanchester Agricultural Society's annual Open Show. Harry comes out for the day to watch his "big sister" showing, and has a great time with elected puppy-sitter for the day Joan!

Meanwhile, inside the ring, I am thrilled to see Lucie take not only 1st in Open Dog or Bitch (5 Entries, 1 Absent) but to go on to take Best of Breed over some lovely dogs. My sincere thanks to Breed Specialist Marina Page (Cedarcreek) for thinking well of my girl.

I also had the pleasure of handling for the first time the lovely Kaiser - Ddraigeira Paris Yn Haf At Nordicwinds - owned and loved by Jonathon & Janine Horsman Phoenix, who took Reserve in Limit Dog or Bitch.

05/07

Today was a hot hot day at East of England Championship show, where Lucie has her first time in Open Bitch at a CC Championship Show and I am delighted to see her take Reserve in such a strong entry (16 Ent, 4 Abs) under Breed Specialist Nicola Singh (Sledog).

17/06

Today we are delighted to welcome Harry - Viking Fenrir Kin Of Kiyara's Wolf Pak - who has travelled all the way from breeder Sylvia Gremm (Of Kiyara's Wolf Pak) in Germany to join the Fenrirkin pack.

He is a delightfully sweet, laid back boy, and has made firm friends with Lucie already, and we cannot thank Sylvia enough for entrusting him to us. Watch this space for more updates as he matures.

16/06

At Northwich & District Canine Society Open Show today, Lucie takes 1st in Open Dog or Bitch under Breed Specialist Jenny Shorer-Wheeler (Koromandel).

08/06

A pleasant start to the month at Three Counties Championship Show with the sun shining throughout the day.

MAY 2013

19/05

Yesterday saw Lucie and I head up to Cumbria for 12 or so miles of backpacking - including an overnight camp - with friends. In true British style it was a just a tad damp and muddy with lots of sheep to keep us on our toes, but was thoroughly enjoyable with good company. And as a bonus, this venture has now, subject to confirmation, closed Lucie's WPD title too, making her Windberg Paparazzi To Fenrirkin WPD WWPD WWPDA WWPDX.

17/05

A long trip up to Edinburgh for SKC Championship show where I am delighted to see a still completely bald Lucie gain 3rd in Limit Bitch under judge Derek Smith.

I also have the pleasure of handling Vienna - Amaqqut Leading The Pack - for the Sheehan's who takes 1st in Junior Bitch, and the lovely Breeze - Arcticbreeze Lady Imocara - for owner / breeder Lisa Mort who places 2nd in Veteran Bitch.

12/05

At Pudsey & District Canine Society Open Show, Lucie takes 2nd in Open Dog or Bitch under judge Freda Marshall.

11/05

Today we go to Birmingham Nationals Championship Show where Lucie - still distinctly lacking in coat - misses out on a place in Limit Bitch but has fun catching up with friends.

06/05

Today was a thoroughly enjoyable day which see's Lucie and I backpack circa 10 miles around Place Fell in the Lake District with friends to gain another leg towards her WPD title.
It was a challenging start, with over 1500 ft of elevation in the first 2 miles, but the scenery was spectacular even through the morning mist, and it's fair to say all dogs and owners enjoyed themselves - especially the bits with sheep!

04/05

A very busy but enjoyable day at the AMCUK Open Show.

First and foremost, super pleased with my Lucie who despite very little coat got second in Limit Bitch and Reserve in Special Working Certified Open Bitch.

Also got in on some handling duties. First for Gary Roach and Paula Pyper I took in their homebred Quin - Celticice Quinarius Nessie - who got Reserve in Post Graduate Bitch, followed by (for the first time) their girl Shilling - Dankatcha's Shilling at Celticice - who got Reserve in Special Veteran Bitch.

I also took in Joan and Jeff Sheehan's Vienna - Amaqqut Leading The Pack - and was pleased to see her take Reserve in Special Rescue Stakes Junior Dog or Bitch.

And just to add some extra exercise to my day I also did the running for the handsome Odin (Tuvaurat Dances With Wolves For Chavell) on behalf of owner Cheryl Biddlecombe, as well as taking in one of Myra & Keith Butler's Chloe baby's, Taro (Kaytoo Antarctic Tarot), for her Brood Bitch win.

What a lovely day, topped off by seeing Lucie's father MBVISS / MBISS / BIS Snowolf Canuck Bullit ShCM earn his second Best In Speciality Show and Best Veteran In Speciality Show - well done Bullit, Sharon and Mark :)

APRIL 2013

28/04

Had a really lovely end to the month at WELKS Championship Show under judge Liz Dunhill (Vorumund).

First I handled for the first time the handsome Mason, Amaqqut Harnessed Power, owned and loved by Mandy Longbottom and Adam Sammels, who at only his 3rd ever show (and his first ever Champ Show, nonetheless) placed VHC in Junior Dog with a good sized class of 11 Entries, 1 Absent.

Then it was my own Super-Naked Lucie's turn, who despite being a bit tufty placed VHC in Post Graduate Bitch (8 Entries, 2 Absent).

And finally got the pleasure of handling the lovely Breeze - Arcticbreeze Lady Imocara - owned by Lisa & Wayne Mort in the Bitch Challenge - she was an absolute darling!

21/04

And am thankful to report the sun stayed shining for one more day at Allerton!

Lucie went out on a 10+ mile trek with friends Leader (owned by Ian Elliot) & Bear (owned by Samantha Robotham & Ryan Reader) for a 3rd WTD leg - thank you to them for looking after her and ensuring she had loads of fun.

Meanwhile I went out with Joan & Jeff Sheehan's boy Womble for his 2nd WPD leg with his sister Porsche walked by friend Jo joining us for the first few miles, and also the lovely Nebraska with owner Kirsty who was stayed with us for the duration to earn her 2nd WPD leg - thank you to both humans and canines for the great company!

Well done to everybody else out enjoying the trail today and more thanks to all who made this fantastic weekend possible - looking forward to next season!

20/04

Today marks two special events!

First is the final competitive weight pull, award ceremony and celebration BBQ at Allerton Park. It was a fantastic day, with scrumptious food, full on sunshine and loads of our friends getting personal bests - including Joan & Jeff Sheehan's Womble who I handle in the chute to pull a fantastic 2400lb.
Lucie has a very fun day, not only getting to collect the Cedarcreek Trophy for 2nd in the 61-80lb class for the 2012 / 2013 Championship, but in the final competition of the season pulls 1600lb, over 23x her bodyweight, to come 4th in her class for the day and to earn that 5th and final leg to her AMCA Excellent Title. Subject to confirmation, this will now make her "Windberg Paparazzi To Fenrirkin WWPD WWPDA WWPDX". Absolutely over the moon with her hard work over the last year!

And the second, but by no means least, special event of today is that it marks Lucie's 3rd birthday. I know she has had a fantastic day and hope her two littermates Star & Nero have had equally fun celebrations :)

What a fantastic day at Mountsorrel & District Canine Society Open Show where we have sunshine but strong winds to keep us on our toes.

Lucie does me proud by taking not only 1st in a strong Open Dog or Bitch class (6 entries, 1 absent) but also Best of Breed under Breed Specialist judge Anne Nevinson (Wintalakes) - absolutely thrilled.

07/04

Today marked the Alaskan Malamute Club of the UK's AGM, which is always closed with the announcement of their Malamute of the Year Awards (MOYA).

This year was made extra special, with my Lucie - Windberg Paparazzi To Fenrirkin WWPD coming 7th in Top Special Beginner, 10th in Top Bitch, 18th in overall Top Malamute.

And just to round things off, was thrilled to see that in conjunction with this her Father Bullit - BIS / BISS / BVISS Snowolf Canuck Bullit ShCM - come 10th in Top Stud Dog and Mother Kirei - BPIS / BPISS Mottomo Kirei No Yukimigata - comes 20th in Top Brood Bitch - so well done to owners Sharon Loades and Jayne Hood also.

05/04

It might not sound like news, but the first sunny day of Spring seemed worth celebrating so here are some pictures of Lucie enjoying a walk around Fairburn Ings!

MARCH 2013

31/03

What a fantastic way to end the month and the Allerton Park 2012/13 Championship. Round 8 see's Lucie weigh in at her lightest yet (65lb) but this doesn't stop her pulling over 23x her body weight (1500lb) to earn a fourth WWPDX leg and to come 3rd in the 61-80lb class for the day. She does the classic pulling 1600lb all but 3 inches of the required distance before stopping and running out of time, but I cannot complain and am thrilled with all her hard work this season!

I also handle Womble in the chute for Joan; he pulls 1900lb to come 4th in the 101lb+ class. Much like Lucie he actually pulls 2100lb all the way to the end before fatally stopping and missing out by inches, but again, has worked so hard this season (especially when he's used to working for his mum in the chute) and I am chuffed for him and his owners on his success this season.

24/03

We venture out in the snow today to attend Retford Canine Society Open Show. The cold weather seems to have Lucie bouncing everywhere, but she still places 3rd in Open Dog or Bitch under judge Rebecca Kaye (Tiborkie).

17/02

Lucie has certainly had a busy weekend - and a very wet and muddy one at that, quite different to last weeks Crufts preparations!

Saturday saw Round 7 of the Allerton Weightpull Championship.

Not her best day from a competitive perspective, she pulled 1400lb nearly all the way to the end of the chute but lost traction on the last few inches and unfortunately ran out of time before getting the trolley across the line, making her final pull for the day 1200lb (over 17x her bodyweight) and putting her 5th in the 61-80lb class.

I also had fun pulling Womble for Joan too, who ended on a pull of 2200lb to come 2nd in the 101lb+ class.

She then had a sleepover with Ian Elliot & his boy Leader - Mountain Homes Lead Dog at Packice WTD WLD WWPD WPD WPDA. In the morning, she headed off for a wet 10.5 mile trek with them and new friend Bear - Dreamwolves I Am Legend, owned by Sam Robotham & Ryan Reader - to earn her next WTD leg.
From what I hear she was generally well behaved, bar a few pounces for field mice along the way, and all 3 dogs worked hard through a lot of deep mud and flooded trails and I am very grateful to Ian & Ryan for running her and taking care of her on my behalf.

Our first CC Championship show of the year is the prestigious Crufts and what a lovely day it is.

Lucie does me absolutely proud, storming round the ring to take 2nd in a strong Limit Bitch class (13 Entries, 3 absent), meaning she has now Crufts qualified for 2014. My sincere thanks under our Breed Specialist Judge Sue Ellis (Chayo) for thinking well of my girl.

FEBRUARY 2013

25/02

A weekend of fun at Allerton.

On Saturday 23rd it was Round 6 of the weightpull Championship, where good company was accompanied by a constant flurry of snow and sleet.
Lucie tried her hardest at 1600lb for that 4th WWPDX leg, but just couldn't get a grip on the increasingly damp ground and so in the end settled for a pull of 1400lb (over 20x her bodyweight) to come 4th in the 61-80lb class for the day.
I also continued my handling of Womble for who came 2nd in the 101lb+ class with a pull of 2100lb - he even got the trolley half way on 2300lb!

On Sunday 24th I decided to head out for a trek despite still suffering a horrible head cold. I set off initially with Amaqqut's Kizzy and my own Lucie however a "technical difficulty" meant that under a mile in had to make the decision to run Lucie on her own for the very first time. I am pleased to report she kept her lines tight at a steady pace, with lots of hills and thick, deep mud to slog through. After 4 miles I was feeling quite pathetic and unhelpful as a musher and decided to scratch for the day.

Thank you to Andy Scott (Arcticdawn) for these shots of the girls setting off:

17/02

A weekend of Open Shows for me and Lucie.

On Saturday 16/02 we went to Huddersfield & District CA where under breed specialist Joan Sheehan (Amaqqut) Lucie took a respectable 2nd in Open Dog or Bitch (6 entries, 0 absent).

And on Sunday 17/02 we were out to Matlock & District CS where under judge Arlene Clure (Redwitch) she took 3rd in Graduate Dog or Bitch (6 Entries, 2 Absent).

Not a bad weekend! Thank you to Janine Horsman-Pheonix for sharing with me these photos from Saturday.

03/02

Today was a trip to Pontefract & DCS Open Show, where Lucie takes Reserve in Post Graduate Dog or Bitch under judge John Phillips (Meshugah).

JANUARY 2013

20/01

Today we enjoyed a very cold day at the Allerton Weightpull, where snow and ice lay thick on the ground and made for tough pulling conditions.

Lucie, wasn't quite herself and after pulling 1300lb (18x her bodyweight) seemed to struggle on 1500lb where we had to call it a day.
I also had the fun task of handling Womble on behalf of his owners at Amaqqut, who ultimately pulled 1900lb to win his class and to get the accolade of heaviest weight pulled by opposite sex (losing out to the heaviest weight pulled claim as a result of taking a few seconds longer than Polar Botterill who impressively pulled 1900lb from the 81-100lb class)!

19/01

January starts very slowly for us here as a result of Lucie's season, and we end up missing both Boston and Manchester Championship shows.

Instead, we take some time to enjoy the rare British snow, mostly from the comfort of our own garden.

01/01

All of us here at Fenrirkin would like to wish our friends and family - old and new, canine and human - a happy new year and all the best for 2013.
